Let the Light Shine in your Life!

The light came into the world . . .

People preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. (John 3:19)

In this scripture passage, darkness is attributed to works of evil. These are doings that makes us blind to see the light of truth. The problem is that in reality, as stated in the gospel, people chose for themselves to do such acts rather than opening up themselves to receive the light of Christ.

What makes us do works of evil?

Saint Clement wrote, "Since all things lie open to His eyes and ears, let us hold Him in awe and rid ourselves of impure desires to do works of evil, so that we may be protected by His mercy from the judgement that is to come. Which of us can escape His mighty hand?

It is clear that works of evil comes from impure desires. Desires that makes us move towards the wrong direction. Do not get me wrong, desires are good if it is pure but it can also lead us to the dark if it is impure. Once we give in to it, then we start to acquire "dark secrets".

Gospel reveals the meaning of dark secrets . . .

Everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. (John 3:20)

Let's face it, each of us has his own dark secrets to keep and we are afraid that they may be exposed. This is because in one time or another, we have preferred darkness to light.

How can I deal with my dark secrets?

Saint Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans 13:12-14, "Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

This bible passage sums up everything in relation to darkness and light, its works based on our desires.

The bottom line is that the Lord always makes it available for us to choose the truth that will lead us to the light and forever sets us free from any dark secrets.

Whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. (John 3:21)

May we all live in the light of truth and that is Jesus Christ.

I invite you now to pray with me . . .

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner who does wicked things in your sight. Have mercy on me and please forgive me. I am not worthy of you but only say the word and I shall be healed.

Lord Jesus, you are the light that came into the world. Save me from the darkness of sin and evil temptations of the world that surrounds me each day.

Lord Jesus, my heart belongs to you. Help me live in your truth and come to your light so that all my works will give glory and praise to God the Father now and forever. Amen.
